Released in January 2007 at CES the Hitachi DZHS500A is a standard definition hybrid DVD/HD camcorder. Shooting at 640x480 the DZHS500A records directly onto a DVD or the unit's internal 30GB hard drive, allowing for 23 hours of recording time at standard settings.

Still images are restricted by the camcorder's lackluster CCD, producing a maximum image resolution of 640x480 (0.3MP). The device has an 85 minute battery life. The DZHS500A's less advanced brother the DZHS300A features a smaller 8GB internal drive and less zoom (25x optical).
